Superyacht Lady Christine turns heads in West Cork

THE Lady Christine superyacht which berthed in Baltimore, Bantry and Glengarriff at the weekend, was built by Royal Van Lent, based on a design by De Voogt Naval Architects. The yacht's owners, Scottish Lord and Lady Laidlaw, have invested decades of vessel-building experience into this stunning yacht which was delievered in 2010 and refitted in 2015.

The yacht is currently for sale with an asking price of m – or €53m in our coins.

Lord Laidlaw is himself a world-class sailor and has competed in Cork Ford Week in the past. The stylish yacht which turned heads all around the  West Cork coast last week, boasts the latest in technology and even has ultra-sensitive infrared sensor units that keep the electric doors open in Lord Laidlaw's study. 

‘We set an additional sensor at a low level in order to ensure that the doors cannot close on our dogs, who travel with us at all times,' he is quoted as saying.

 He said he spent four days in the fabric department at Harrods with his wife Christine and interior designer Rodney Black selecting materials.

The yacht was built in steel and aluminium by Dutch yard Feadship to Lloyds class, and can accommodate 10 guests in five cabins. There is also accommodation for 21 crew in an additional 11 cabins, according to Boat International magazine.

The 68-metre motor yacht has a split level deck above the wheelhouse and has been designed to house a master suite on its own deck with an observation room with 180 degree views, a sitting room, private dining room and a large en suite bedroom. Below, accommodation is in three doubles and a twin, all with joinery in poplar wood, with ample storage space, entertainment centres and en suite bathroom facilities.

Additional features include a helipad, a large sun deck and grill, barbecue and pizza oven, a soundproof cinema with a 103” screen, hot tub on deck, retractable sea balconies on either side of the dining saloon and the piano bar. 

The yacht is powered by twin 1,320kw diesel engines with a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 12 knots and she is fitted with four Quantum zero-speed stabilisers.
