A 30-year-old Ukrainian man who put an insurance disc from his other car on his new vehicle was fined €150.

Serhii Berestenko 6 St Patrick’s Place, New Road, Bandon pleaded guilty at Bandon District Court to driving without insurance.

Sgt Eimear O’Connell told the court that on April 22nd 2025 Gda O’Reilly stopped a car on the N71 at Toureen, Ballinhassig.

‘The insurance disc on the car was for another car he owned. He obtained insurance at the roadside at 11.45am and his car wasn’t seized,’ said Sgt O’Connell.

The court heard he has no previous convictions.

Defence solicitor Plunkett Taaffe said his client has been living here three years and works in a local cheese factory.

‘He bought the car at an online auction. They delivered the car down to Bandon and he went to the garage the next morning to collect it,’ said Mr Taaffe.

Judge Carroll told the accused that he has to obey the rules in this country, warning: ‘If you come before the court again on a no insurance charge it will be a mandatory disqualification.’
