A ROSSCARBERY motorist caught driving without insurance for the third time in three years was given a four-year driving ban.
Kieran O’Regan (40) of Dunmore, Rosscarbery pleaded guilty at Clonakilty District Court to driving without insurance.
Sgt Tom Mulcahy told the court that at 11.30pm on March 7th 2025 Gda Joe Tippins stopped a car driven by the accused at Kilmacabee on the N71.

‘Mr O’Regan admitted to Gda Tippins that he had no insurance and his car was seized,’ said Sgt Mulcahy.
Judge Joanne Carroll was told that he has three previous convictions, two for driving without insurance, and that it was his third conviction in three years for having no insurance.
His solicitor Plunkett Taaffe handed into a court a medical report and said Mr O’Regan resides with his mother and is her carer.
‘He suffers from a number of issues including anxiety and depression and his sister, who lives in the UK will come back to do the driving for them,’ said Mr Taaffe. ‘He was about to start his last disqualification the next day and in a move of pure stupidity he moved the car home.’
Judge Carroll said it was a most unfortunate situation. She disqualified him from driving for four years but did not impose a monetary fine and admitted him to a probation bond for 12 months. He must co-operate and engage with the probation service and attend driver awareness programme if advised.
‘It’s the most unfortunate situation he finds himself in and he needs to deal with his other issues,’ said Judge Carroll who also asked Mr Taaffe to impress upon his client that he cannot drive while disqualified.
