THIS month’s Belgooly Show will mark a significant milestone as it celebrates its 80th show and it would not be possible without all its tireless volunteers and supporters, the launch heard last week.

Speaking at a reception in The Hunstman Bar in Belgooly, show chairman John Stanley paid tribute to all those who help make the show happen each year.

He said they were blessed with great weather during last year’s show and hopes the same can be repeated this coming bank holiday weekend.

He thanked the Department of Rural and Community Development for grant funding to agricultural shows this year.

‘Agricultural shows demonstrate rural life at its best, including horses, cattle and local produce. Not to be overlooked is the opportunity to meet up and have a chat with neighbours and friends,’ said John.

He added that the prize fund for this year’s show will exceed €10,000 and the show will feature 19 Horse classes including three ISA Qualifiers.

Meanwhile, there are 20 Pony classes in the Pony Section including Confined Local Working Hunter Pony (within 19km of Belgooly).

There are six Pony Championships: Led Pony, Ridden Pony, Working Hunter Pony, Starter Stakes, Mini and Supreme Pony.

The Cattle section will feature Holstein Friesian and Jersey Dairy classes and Beef classes including Aberdeen Angus, Belgian Blue, Hereford, Limousin and Simmental breeds and new this year is a Non-Pedigree Dairy Beef Calf class.

The fun Dog Show has 14 classes and there are over 50 classes to suit everyone in baking, arts, crafts and photography.

Other attractions on the day will include Irish dancing, Most Suitably Dressed Lady and Bonny Baby of the Show.

Expect plenty of vintage machinery and vintage cars, while the Mobile Pet Farm will make a welcome return.
