CLONAKILTY’S Facksbridge Shopping Centre and doctor’s surgery could soon get an extension.

Council planners have received an application to build an extension at the existing doctor’s surgery, near Scally’s SuperValu.

The plans also include five new retail units in three single-storey blocks.

The planned development, submitted by Scally Brothers Ltd, also includes the construction of a bin storage area.

If given the go ahead, the doctor’s surgery would have five consultation rooms, a waiting room, canteen, and an area for reception and administration, as well as bin storage facilities.

The development would include some elements of zinc cladding on the outside and blue-black tiles on the roof of the retail units.

‘The site is an established, fully serviced brownfield site comprising the existing supermarket building, servicing areas, existing doctor surgery, car parking, and associated hardstanding,’ said consulting engineers John Dinneeen & Associates in its Appropriate Assessment Screening Report.

Construction is expected to take between nine and 12 months. The application is currently going through the validation process and a decision is due on June 16th.

The final date to submit public observations is May 26th.
