Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life and The Hook Clinic, based on North Street, Skibbereen offers tailored treatment packages for brides-to-be to ensure they look and feel their best on their wedding day.

The Hook Clinic is a medical aesthetics and wellness clinic owned by Dr Laoise Hook, who trained as a medical doctor at St George's Hospital, London. In 2023 Dr Hook relocated to West Cork with her family and last year she launched The Hook Clinic. The Hook Clinic aims to deliver world class treatments but with a warm West Cork welcome.

Dr Hook believes that undertaken by trained professionals, medical aesthetics should be virtually unnoticeable. She advises brides and mothers of the bride/groom that they should aim to start at least four to six months before the wedding (though it is never too late!). Dr Hook offers an initial consultation to create a treatment plan with a bride-to-be.

Strengthening Skin from Within

The focus, says Dr Hook, is to strengthen the skin from within.

"The aim is to focus on stimulating new collagen production to create more youthful looking skin, it is essential to start early as collagen building treatments take time to reveal their full results, and your skin has time to respond and renew well ahead of your big day".

For this collagen production stage, the clinic offers:

Microneedling

Laser and IPL treatments

Particularly popular are IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments which are used to treat a wide range of skin issues, from lightening dark spots and freckles to improving the appearance of thread veins.

Timing and Preparation

Timing is crucial, says Dr Hook. "Some treatments, such as resurfacing will produce fantastic results, but in the initial days following the treatment there can be facial redness and flaking. We don't want this to impact on any part of the wedding preparation so we will work out timings with the bride, such as when her hen party is, and other events".

Dr Hook and her team also advise on skincare regimes and what ingredients to look for in products. The clinic stocks leading international brands including:

pHformula (Spain)

O Cosmedics (Australia)

Reform and The Skin Diary (Ireland)

K-Beauty and many others

The Final Countdown

From around 4-6 weeks before the wedding, the clinic recommends concentrating on improving texture, reducing pore size, and boosting clarity and luminosity.

"At this point we will focus on balancing skin tone and ensuring your complexion is radiant and camera ready from all angles". Microneedling can still be done, along with Profhilo, medical facials, and dermaplaning.

Regarding anti-wrinkle injections, Dr Hook recommends relaxer treatments be done 4-6 weeks before the wedding. If it is your first time, she advises a session 5-6 months prior to ensure you are happy with the look.

In the final 1-3 weeks, it is all about the "glow".

Dr Hook recommends a personalised facial and O Cosmedics eye masks for five days before the wedding.
