A CONCERT in St Patrick’s Cathedral in Skibbereen’s featuring country singing sensation Nathan Carter sold out in just five days.

The concert, a fundraiser for the Rath & Islands Parish Assembly, will see more than 800 fans of the Liverpudlian singer of ‘Wagon Wheel’ pack into the church on Sunday December 13th.

‘We could probably have sold another night no problem, such was the demand,’ organiser David Sheehy told The Southern Star.

‘We put posters up advertising it on Bank Holiday Monday in Skibbereen, and it was sold out by the Saturday. We wanted to give locals a chance to get the tickets first.’

The organisers have to erect the stage after the last mass on Sunday morning, in time for the 7.30pm gig that night. ‘When we leave there at about 1am that night, after the show, we will leave the Cathedral ready for mass the next morning,’ said David.

The same committee ran a hugely successful Phil Coulter fundraising concert two years ago in the same venue.
