THERE have been reports this lunchtime that Ireland South MEP Liadh Ní Riada may be considering a run for the Presidency.
The Sinn Fein member, who lives in Ballyvourney, is a daughter of musician Sean O Riada, who will be remembered this weekend at the Feile na Laoch festival in Cúil Aodha – which will be attended by current President Michael D Higgins.
RTÉ News reported at lunchtime that Ms Ni Riada’s name was being mentioned as a possible candidate for the Aras and she ‘hasn’t denied it.’
The 51-year-old MEP, who is a native of Cúil Aodha, has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014.
She is the only Irish representative on the EU Budget's Committee.
An enquiry to Ms Ní Riada’s office by The Southern Star has not yet met with a response.
