Cork County Council has said that it is investigating allegations of a blocked access path to Barleycove beach.

CORK County Council has said that it is investigating allegations of a blocked access path to Barleycove beach.

Locals say that a path, often used by walkers in the area, that gives access to the world-famous beach, has been cut off.

They say that a wall of boulders and brambles has appeared recently at Chimney Cove, which is based at the top of the hill from Barleycove beach car park, on the Crookhaven side of the bay.

‘This pathway is used regularly by locals and tourists alike to access the very popular Chimney Cove beach,’ one resident told The Southern Star.  Locals are very annoyed at not being able to access this walk, especially with the traditional Christmas walking season beginning soon.

This week Cork County Council confirmed that they were aware of the situation at Chimney Cove.

‘I can confirm that Cork County Council is aware of this matter and is currently investigating same,’ a spokesperson told The Southern Star.
