Christmas is coming early in West Cork as the Clonakilty Countdown to Christmas was launched this week.

CHRISTMAS is coming early in West Cork as the Clonakilty Countdown to Christmas was launched this week.

The local Chamber of Commerce shopping event, from Thursday next, November 5th, to Saturday 7th, aims to encourage people to shop locally and draw in visitors to the great variety of shops in the town. It will feature promotions and events in store with late night shopping on Thursday 5th until 8pm. Mulled wine and mince pies will be served for shoppers in many outlets.

During the Countdown to Christmas, which continues until December 21st, every purchase with participating retailers in a great number of Clonakilty shops will earn a ticket to a draw for €3,000 worth of prizes to spend in shops, hotels, restaurants and also many of the businesses attached to the Chamber, including dental surgeries, solicitors and architects. The prize is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

As the Clonakilty resurfacing and drainage scheme progresses, retailers in the town will be creating a festive shopping experience for shoppers in Clonakilty.

Sinead O’Crowley, spokesperson for Retail, Clonakilty Chamber of Commerce commented: ‘Retailers in the town are joining together to create the Countdown to Christmas campaign and ensuring there’s plenty of seasonal buzz and excitement in November and December. The roadworks project is progressing and we are making sure that shoppers have the best experience possible.’
