‘On the night of the public order offence, he went from being very aggressive to sobbing,’ said Sgt Tom Mulcahy.

‘Gardaí asked him to leave the area and he did after a few attempts. Along with his mother, they escorted him away. He was becoming more and more erratic, despite pleas from his mother to calm down. The guards had to arrest him for his own safety.’

The court heard the accused has 19 previous convictions for drugs, public order, criminal damage and assault.

Defence solicitor Myra Dinneen, said her client  has taken part in alcohol and drug treatment in Cuan Mhuire in Kildare and was now in an after-care programme and drug-free for ten months.

Wishing him the ‘best of luck’ Judge Joanne Carroll said she would apply the Probation Act in both matters.
