An application has been lodged with Cork County Council to convert a former butcher shop on Pearse Street, Clonakilty, into a pizza takeaway.

The proposal seeks permission to change the use of the ground floor premises from retail to food service.

Members of the public have until March 3rd to submit objections or observations, with a final decision from the council expected by March 24th.

The building previously housed Scully’s Butchers, an award-winning business established by butcher Dave Scully.

The shop closed its doors on November 15th last year following Mr Scully’s retirement, marking the end of 20 years at the Pearse Street location.

If approved, the development would see the premises take on a new role in the town centre’s food scene.

The planning file is available for public inspection through Cork County Council’s online planning portal.
