PLANNING applications have been lodged for two developments in Bantry which would deliver 87 houses and 16 apartments, writes Martin Steinmetz.

DMCA Consultants have applied on behalf of Mylo Lab Ltd to build 45 houses and eight apartments at Milleencoola.

The scheme is part of a phased development on a parcel of land owned by McKee Construction Ltd. In 2022 and 2023 the An Cnocán estate was built in two phases to the south of the proposed site.

In 2024 work began on another estate to the south of An Cnocán, on the southern side of a local road and also in Milleencoola.

An Cnocán has already been completed while the other, An Fulacht Fiadh, is currently under construction.

A decision on the current plans for the 45 homes and eight apartments is due by October 8th 2026.

Cllr Caroline Cronin (FG) welcomed the plans, adding that they would bring much-needed housing for everyone, including affordable homes.

‘This is very welcome news for the town,’ she  said.

‘The more housing we can provide to meet demand, the better. I have people contacting me almost daily looking for housing, so it is vital that we continue to increase the supply of homes.’

DMCA Consultants also lodged an application on behalf of Aiden McCarthy for 45 houses and eight apartments at Dromleigh South and Seskin, Bantry.

In both planning proposals, the applicants also ask for permission to install roads, footpaths, a playground, public lighting, services and landscaping.

The public can submit observations for a period of five weeks from the date the application was submitted to Cork County Council.
