A MACROOM man found slumped in a fast food restaurant was convicted of a Public Order offence and fined €200. Andrew Goulding (45) of apt 2, 57 Main Street, Macroom pleaded guilty to being drunk in a public place at Macroom District Court.

Sgt Trish O’Sullivan said that at 9.40pm on October 19th gardaí were called to Apache Pizza in Macroom after receiving a report of a drunk male.

‘They spoke with the accused who was unable to speak properly and was slumped on the chair and in a very drunk state.

Gardaí had to assist him out of the premises and he was arrested for his own safety,’ said Sgt O’Sullivan.

Mr Goulding has three previous convictions including one for being drunk in a public place and one for drink driving.

Judge John King said there seems to be a bit of a theme here and that ‘theme is alcohol’.

The dad of two young children admitted he has a problem with alcohol and had attended rehab last year.

‘I had a relapse in October and I will go back again,’ he said.
