It is understood that the production team behind the movie The Riders will be using at least one location in the county - the old terminal in the airport.

Brad Pitt's own production company, Plan B Entertainment, is involved in the Edward Berger-directed film, as is the American independent entertainment company A24, which is handling finance and distribution.

The Ocean’s 11 star is currently staying in the affluent coastal suburb of Dalkey, where Matt Damon got stuck for months during the pandemic lockdown in 2020.

The story follows Pitt's character Fred Scully, who relocates from Australia to a farmhouse in Ireland with his wife Jennifer, played by Julianne Nicholson, and his seven-year-old daughter Billie.

The rural idyll chosen for the farmhouse scenes is in the Wicklow Mountains, a site that overlooks Lough Tay, which is also known as the Guinness lake.

When Scully goes to meet his wife off the plane, it is just his daughter who emerges. And what comes next is Scully's desperate search for his wife, a search that will take the production crew and its stars to various locations in Cork and Kerry.

There is nothing, as yet, to confirm that West Cork will be part of the filming schedule as the West Cork Film Studios (WCFS), which was involved in the making of five major films last year, is not directly involved in this particular project.

However, given the large number of extras that WCFS has on its books, it is likely that some locals could make it onto the set.
