THE West Cork ukulele group takes walk-ins at their weekly sessions and that includes celebs like Bob Geldof and his French movie star wife Jeanne Marine.
‘We normally play in the Fuchsia Room in the West Cork Hotel on Wednesday nights, but we had to decamp to The Snug,’ music and language teacher Alison Boardman told The Southern Star.
‘The door to the snug was open and just by chance Bob and Jeanne, who is a dedicated ukulele player, saw us and walked in, It was really good of them to come in and stay for as long as they did. For about 20 minutes Bob played some blues and reggae and the Beatles classic Here Comes the Sun.

‘That led to an interesting conversation about George Harrison being a great promoter of the ukulele and how it is such a versatile instrument,’ said Alison.
‘He said that if you learn to play some of George Harrison’s songs you will also learn how to get out of playing the humdrum three chord songs because it allows you to be more creative.’
Not to be outdone by her rock star husband, Jeanne performed a song that she wrote herself, but not for love nor money can Alison recall the title.
The session was fun for everyone involved and a wee video of them all jamming together exists, but all of them have vowed to respect Bob’s wishes and not to put it up on social media.
The Boomtown Rats singer also enjoyed some down time in Skibbereen last week where he told us he was ‘shopping with the missus’ and was spotted in Schull at the weekend.
