SHOCKING videos of a stabbing incident in Bucharest, which is alleged to have involved a man from West Cork, continue to circulate online.

The incident, which is believed to have taken place in a hotel in the Romanian capital, the weekend before last, is being relayed online via several short video clips.

One video shows the alleged West Cork aggressor knocking on a hotel door, and shouting at his ‘friend’ after a noise disturbance complaint was made against him.

Another video shows the same man, who is believed to be in his mid-20s, kicking and punching the door.

Subsequent videos show the ‘friend’ holding a blood splattered white bath towel to an apparent knife wound at his side.

The video also pans around the room and shows blood stains on an armchair and droplets of blood on the hotel room floor.

The Southern Star contacted An Garda Síochána for a comment and a spokesperson stated: ‘If the incident did not occur in Ireland, it would be outside of our jurisdiction.’

The Romanian police authorities did not respond to an email from The Southern Star requesting clarification, or verification. The Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying: ‘The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance.

‘As with all consular cases,’ the spokesman added, ‘the department does not comment on the details of individual cases.’

Romanian media reported that the man had been detained for 30 days but it is, as yet, unclear if he has been charged.
