Sgt Tom Mulcahy said that at 1am on April 13th gardaí were on patrol on Pearse Street in Kinsale when they saw an altercation outside Kitty Ó Sé’s Bar.

‘They went to investigate the matter and the accused fled the scene but they caught up with him.

The injured party was lying on the ground after getting a knock to his head. He also suffered a jaw injury and was unconscious for a small time,’ said Sgt Mulcahy.

‘The accused was identified by witnesses and CCTV. He sucker-punched the injured party who hit the ground straight away. He has made a full recovery since.’

Judge Carroll adjourned the matter until January 15th next to hear the full facts as well as mitigation and a victim impact statement.
