ALEX Young hit a hat-trick for Bay Rovers as the club stayed top of the OBrienWaterServices.com Championship after a 4-1 win away to Aultagh Celtic B.

Young gave Rovers the lead on 11 minutes before an Oleksandr Alex Nadiezhko goal eight minutes later levelled it for Celtic. Ryan O’Boy’s goal gave Bay a 2-1 half-time lead before Young put the finishing touches to the win in the second period when he added two more goals.

Beara United, in second place, are just one point off pace-setters Bay Rovers after a 5-2 victory over Aultagh’s A team. Evan Maguire gave Aultagh a 1-0 lead at half-time but Beara moved 2-1 in front through goals from David McCarthy and Richard Murphy. Oisín O’Connell levelled proceedings for a battling Aultagh but Declan Dunne hit a quick hat-trick inside the last 14 minutes to seal three points for United.

Skibbereen Celtic sit in fifth in the table after a 6-1 win over Mizen Hob. Luke O’Sullivan and Aaron Dempsey (2) gave Celtic a three goal advantage after 20 minutes. Ryan O’Neill pulled one back for Mizen before the break, but Dempsey completed his hat-trick on 49 minutes to put Skibb in a commanding position. O’Sullivan and Cian O’Brien added the extra on a comfortable afternoon for Celtic.

Spartak Mossgrove picked up their first point of the season with a 3-3 draw against Castlelack. Cian Kelleher gave Castlelack the lead after just three minutes but Richard O’Sullivan equalised for Spartak before the break. O’Sullivan and Kelleher traded goals to make it 2-2 before Daragh McSweeney looked to have hit the winner for Mossgrove. Back came Castlelack, and Evan O’Shea rescued a draw 12 minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Drinagh Rangers exited the McCarthy Insurance Group Munster Junior Cup at the third round after a 1-0 loss to Castleview. Daniel O’Donoghue netted for the city side after 13 minutes and Drinagh couldn’t find an equaliser.

Aultagh Celtic made it two wins from two in the Fusion Decor Women’s 7s League with a convincing 9-1 scoreline over Bandon.

Aultagh were in control at half time, leading 3-0 through goals from Mary Barrett, Danielle Jackson and Katie Buttimer. The winners ran in six goals in the second period as Jackson completed her hat-trick while Barrett and Buttimer scored again. Mary O’Mahony and Julia Alfonso Hegarty rounded off the scoring, while Francelina Marques Cabral netted a consolation for Bandon.

Beara United are the only other side to play two games and remain unbeaten after a narrow 1-0 win over Mizen. Nina Murphy bagged the winner in the second half.

Elsewhere, Dunmanway Town opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over Drinagh Rangers B, leaving Rangers joint-bottom after two games with Bandon. First-half goals from Maria Cregan, Claire McSweeney and Ellen Healy put Dunmanway in control, while Kellie Doolan got one back for Drinagh late on.
