CILL na Martra boxer Christina Desmond took her record to 5-0 after an impressive second-round stoppage win in her latest bout.

Up against English fighter Sherie Barnes in a welterweight contest scheduled for eight rounds in Alicante last weekend, Desmond showed her class with an early finish, ending the  fight with some quality combinations.

It means Desmond has won all five of her professional fights to date, as momentum builds since her first fight in October.

In an interview in April, Desmond said: ‘There is a lot for me to do in the next 18 months to two years. I believe if I go up through the rankings I’ll get what I deserve at the end. I am putting in the training.

She added: ‘My goal is set on becoming a world champion and bringing a belt back to Cork.’
