Residents in the south and east of the country are being urged to prepare for heavy rain leading to increased flooding.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rain warning for multiple counties including Cork.

The yellow warning covers Cork, Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin, and comes into effect from 11pm Tuesday until 11pm Wednesday night.

Although a Yellow warning represents weather that does not pose an immediate threat to the general population, it does indicate potential localized danger and disruption.

Met Éireann warns that the heavy rainfall on already saturated ground, combined with high river levels, will lead to flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

The national forecaster will continue to monitor the weather system as it approaches. If the intensity of the rain increases beyond current projections, the warning may be updated.
