Cork County Council has issued a warning relating to  the wreck of a 20ft vessel on the Bandon River which is now visible at low water near Ballinadee.

The local authority issued a notice yesterday to all ship owners, fishing vessels, pleasure craft users, seafarers and fishing organisations about the wreck, which has become visible due to the recent dry spell.

A Council spokesperson said that the wreck is 'visible at low water' and partially submerged at other states of tide and mariners are requested to navigate with extreme caution in the area, keep a good lookout and give the wreck a wide berth.

'The area was surveyed yesterday morning with no issues of concern identified, while a further survey was undertaken at low tide in the afternoon. Cork County Council will continue to monitor the situation closely and should any concerns arise, the appropriate measures will be implemented.'

It is understood the vessel has been there for several years.
