ANIKO Megyeri from Carrigaline tied her hair back before she started her big shop at Lidl. It’s what any woman would do if they had just won a two-minute trolley dash as part of the store’s annual charity fundraiser.
Aniko, who was watched from the sidelines by her partner Janos Kollar and their son Max, was delighted to take home €376 in treats for the holidays. The lucky Carrigaline lady was one of 22 lucky trolley dash winners in the county of Cork, which raised €28,000 for Lidl’s charity partner Family Carers Ireland.
The figure for the entire country, across Lidl’s 190 stores, was €272,060, all of which came from the in-store sale of €1 tickets. Each of the 190 winners nationwide were given two-minutes on the clock to take whatever their heart desired from the shelves and walk past the tills without paying.

A spokesperson for Lidl said 100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales goes directly towards supporting family carers and young carers across the country.
Catherine Cox, a representative of Family Carers Ireland, said: ‘This incredible donation is more than just a number, it will help deliver vital support and services to family carers who give so much in caring for their loved ones.
‘The funds,’ she added, ‘will allow us to expand our vital practical and emotional supports, and services, ensuring that the incredible work done by family carers is supported and valued.’
