SISTER Marie Therese Sheehy – a woman who spent 84 of her 100 years as a bride of Christ – marked her centenary at St Michael’s Convent and Care Home in the UK on February 17th.

Sister Marie was born in Skibbereen – where her father owned a shop near the entrance to the Protestant shop and a farm that consisted of three green fields – and was taught locally by the Sisters of Mercy.

At the age of 16, she became a nun and taught in a boys’ primary school in Staffordshire until her retirement.

She then devoted the rest of her life to helping young people, and the homeless in London.

At the age of 80, she also found time to get her A-Levels in Italian. Bene!
