WEST Cork is coming together later this month, bringing together a unique schedule of events in ‘West Cork for Gaza’, the brainchild of Clonakilty school teacher Kieran Doyle, retired school principal Barth Harrington, as well as Moze Jacobs, and features a series of concerts, plays, debates and live art auction taking place across West Cork from November 26th to 30th.
One of the highlights will be the much anticipated ‘One Night for Gaza’ concert in Rossmore Theatre with performances from Gemma Hayes, Hank Wedel, Low Mountain and many more. Speaking to The Southern Star on behalf of the organising team, Kieran said he contacted Barth and Moze recently and suggested the idea.
‘People are doing small events but I thought it would be great to do a big regional event across the different towns of West Cork,’ said Kieran.

‘We got together to tease out the idea and our first suggestion was to host a Band Aid type event where all singers would come together and sing a song each.’
He said they were overwhelmed with the response from singers and musicians, and so are delighted to be able to host it at the Rossmore Theatre on Saturday November 29th.
‘So far we have about 24 artists confirmed for that concert and the idea is that each artists gets to perform one song each, and then maybe have a big singsong at the end.’
He paid tribute to all those across the region who are also hosting events to raise money for various charities.
‘We’ve let each event organiser decide which charity in Gaza their proceeds will go to. The reaction has been fantastic and the whole idea was to get people on one page and have a bigger voice. We are also promoting the idea that while people may feel helpless watching the people of Gaza suffer, they can do something to help. People want to do something good and that’s exactly what is happening here.’
‘West Cork for Gaza’ will run from November 26th to 30th and the full programme of events is available online.
Please note too that the Gaggin Drama Group production of A Living Will on Friday November 28th, will now take place at Gaggin Community Hall at 7.30pm.
