CHRISTMAS 2025 brought some fantastic weather conditions for viewing Christmas lights displays and Michael and Chrissie O’Mahony’s home in Kilbarry, Dunmanway became a meeting place for chats, reminisces, laughs and storytelling for the hundreds of people who came every night to view the display of decorations, lights and figurines on show. Michael and Chrissie said that they love to see groups of people chatting and catching up at the entrance with lots of compliments being given about the lights. The Tree of Remembrance was very well received again with a huge number of ribbons placed on the tree over the season. Masses will be offered for all those who were remembered. The funds raised this year were divided between Breakthrough Cancer Research, West Cork Palliative Care, Marymount Hospice and CoAction Dunmanway. The support and encouragement received from all over West Cork and beyond was phenomenal, and for this Michael and Chrissie are very grateful.
The eagerly awaited presentation of funds dance took place in the Parkway Hotel on Friday February 27th and the night didn’t disappoint. A great crowd turned out and enjoyed four-and-a-half hours of music and dance provided by West Cork duo Patrick Triggs and Niamh Downey, The Finbarr Dennehy family band, and Jake Coffey with some lovely guest spots from local talents Evan Wilson, Con O’Donoghue, The Singing Bus Driver, Teddy Crowley and Maura Dennehy.
At the dance, Michael and Chrissie were very proud to be in a position, due to the huge generosity, help and support of their family, friends, supporters and neighbours to present the following cheques: Breakthrough Cancer Research €5,000; West Cork Palliative Care, Marymount Hospice €5,000; and CoAction, Dunmanway €3570.55. The total raised was €13,570.55. The representatives from each charity who attended on the night were very grateful to receive the funds and all said that every charity is dependent on local fundraising events which mean so much and help the clients who avail of their services. Michael and Chrissie are grateful to everyone who supported both the lights display and the presentation dance.
