A DUNMANWAY motorist was convicted and fined €120 for careless driving after overtaking on a continuous white line.

Kevin Connolly (64), of The Meadows, Kilbarry, Dunmanway, pleaded guilty at Clonakilty District Court to the manoeuvre on March 26th last at around 5.45pm.

Mr Connolly drove on the R599 at Bealad East, Rossmore, Clonakilty, on the side of oncoming traffic, leaving a narrow gap for a cyclist going in his opposite direction.

The driver immediately behind Mr Connolly reported the incident and captured video footage of Mr Connolly driving across a continuous white line for some time.

‘The footage shows the vehicle driving in the middle of the road on the side of oncoming traffic before returning to its own side while another vehicle approaches,’ said Sgt Tom Mulcahy. Defence solicitor Conrad Murphy said his client had never been before the courts, had no previous convictions and held a driving licence for 40 years.

‘It was a momentary lapse of memory,’ said Mr Murphy, adding that Mr Connolly had subsequently received five points on his licence.

The court heard that Mr Connolly suffered from Parkinson’s disease and needed to renew his licence every three years, which was linked to a medical assessment.

The most recent licence renewal had been on September 11th 2025.

Judge Joanne Carroll imposed a €120 fine, which was paid immediately.
