ORGANISERS of the annual ‘Make Your Mark on Cancer’ charity walk have announced that, through this year’s walk, €41,235 was raised in aid of the Mercy University Hospital Cancer Appeal.

The funds raised will go towards the expansion of psycho-oncology services and other cancer services at the hospital, while an additional €5,000 will go to Marymount Hospice.Hundreds of people took part in the sixth annual 22km charity walk on Sunday, July 15th, from the Viaduct to Bandon. The walk was started in memory of Cork man, Mark Prendergast who lost his battle with testicular cancer in June 2012. Complimentary buses, which transported eager participants to the start point were generously provided by event sponsor, McCarthy Coaches.

This dedicated group is committed to making a difference, raising funds and awareness for cancer patients and their families from all over Munster. The tremendous sum of €46,235 raised last July brings the total raised by ‘Make Your Mark on Cancer’ since its inception to nearly €300,000 for cancer services.
