PLANNING permission has been granted for a 120-bed nursing home in Cappagh, Kinsale which the developer said will ‘provide a vital community use to the town of Kinsale’, writes Kieran O’Mahony.
Peppard Construction Ltd got approval from Cork County Council for the facility, which includes 32 duplex apartments - 16 ground floor assisted living units and 16 first floor staff accommodation units.
The plans also include a childcare facility as well as traffic calming on the road, a footpath and cycleway, pedestrian crossing, and all associated landscaping, car parking, bicycle storage and site development works at Cappagh.

In planning documents the applicant said the plan has been informed by the demand for nursing home spaces, childcare spaces along with the need for assisted living accommodation and staff accommodation in the Kinsale area.
It also said that the proposed development provides for a ‘high quality’ residential environment which included useable open space which reflects the needs of the future residents.
‘The proposed houses will form a new identity within a new community complex and contribute positively to the overall area whilst providing accommodation to those who can lives independently but need assistance and accommodation for staff.’
The development was approved subject to 55 planning conditions.
