Macroom's Castle Grounds will be buzzing this Sunday (September 25th) with healthy eating tastes for all ages at Macroom Community Leisure Centre from 1-5pm.

MACROOM’S Castle Grounds will be buzzing this Sunday (September 25th) with healthy eating tastes for all ages at Macroom Community Leisure Centre from 1-5pm.

There will be activities for all ages, with cookery demonstrations to suit all tastes, ample seating and entertainment for young children, as part of a Safefood Healthy Eating day.

There will also be an exhibition of Healthy Eating posters produced by primary school children from Macroom and surrounding areas, and South and East Cork Area Development (SECAD) and Safefood have teamed up to organise the community event in conjunction with Macroom Food Festival.

The event will show simple and fun ways to ensure that all family members are encouraged to prepare and enjoy healthy, nutritious food on a budget.

The Leisure Centre will provide the backdrop for fun-filled activities for children young and old, and parents can relax and take in the tips and information on healthy eating while there will be face painting, an art corner and an exercise area for children.

Local second level students from McEgan College have taken up the challenge to show how they can promote healthy eating amongst teenagers, supported by dietician Anne Griffin. The local active retired group have been busy ensuring their active lifestyles include healthy, nutritious meals which are varied and take into account changing tastes.

SECAD provides a confidential free employment support service at Macroom E Enterprise Centre each Tuesday. Enquiries welcome and appointments can be booked with Frances Doyle on 021 4613432.
