AN Garda Siochana has confirmed that a male, aged in his 50's, was taken from the River Bandon in Dunmanway yesterday evening and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí and the emergency services responded after receiving reports of a person in the water.

The man's body was removed to Cork University Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The garda spokesperson said the coroner and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have been notified.
