A BEARA motorist was banned for dangerous driving and drink driving after he hit an oncoming car on the wrong side of the road. Damien Healy (43) of No 5, The Oval, Eyeries was involved in a collision at Foildarrig in Castletownbere on January 13th Bantry District Court heard.
Sgt Trish O’Sullivan said when gardaí arrived they saw a Volvo on the wrong side of the road, with extensive damage to the vehicle on its front right side.
The other vehicle was facing Eyeries on its correct side, with the airbags deployed. Gda Daniel Murphy observed that the accused’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred.

A blood sample showed he was over the legal limit.
Sgt O’Sullivan said the other motorist told gardaí she had sounded her car horn and flashed her lights, but the driver did not correct and struck her vehicle.
Defence solicitor Colette McCarthy said Mr Healy ‘broke out’ and was drinking heavily over a short period of time.
Judge Joanne Carroll imposed a two-year disqualification for dangerous driving and a three-year ban for drink driving.
