THE Timoleague Ladies Club has proved that age is no barrier to learning, as their ukulele adventure reached a triumphant first milestone last Sunday at the Timoleague Harvest Festival.

The group began weekly classes last November under tutor Alison Boardman. Their passion soon took them to Portugal for workshops with fellow enthusiasts – great fun and a huge learning curve.

That fun was on full display at Sunday’s performance.

Players from Mallow, Skibbereen, Kinsale and Clonakilty joined the Timoleague Ukulele Strummers on stage for a lively mix of Irish ballads and sing-along numbers, with the crowd joyfully joining in.

‘It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves,’ said a member. The group now calls this ‘the first of hopefully many gigs,’ thanking festival organisers, Alison Boardman, and all the dedicated ukulele musicians.

Well done to all the ukulele strummers – your dedication, enthusiasm, and wonderful attitude made that first gig a triumph, and especially to the girls in the club who gave so wholeheartedly throughout their busy summer.

Always active in community events, the Ladies Club is now hosting a Catwalk Extravaganza, showcasing local fashion, at Darrara Agricultural College Conference Centre on Friday August 28th.
