TRADITIONAL crafts like dry stone walling and basket weaving are making a comeback in Leap this St Patrick’s Day.
Four masters of traditional crafts are passing on their knowledge as part of a heritage skills weekend happening at CECAS at Myross Woods, Leap.
From March 14th to 16th participants will rotate through four workshops on basket making, stone carving, dry stone walling and blacksmithing to make their own creations.

‘We have been delighted to see the recent renewed interest in traditional crafts in West Cork and beyond, and we are very lucky to have so many master craftspeople living and working locally, who are willing to share their expertise,’ said CECAS managing director Ana Ospina.
Workshop host Victor Daly will bring stone to life with carving sessions, with the other workshops hosted by blacksmith J.J. Bowen, dry stone wall builder Karl Kennedy and basket maker Rosemary Kavanagh.
‘We would urge anyone who is interested in this fantastic event to book as soon as possible as places are limited,’ Ana Ospina added.
The ticket price of €550 includes all materials plus three lunches, with optional on-site accommodation and additional meals available.
