Ah the power of modern technology. Between Facebook sharing, retweeting and Insta-following, it’s never been easier to spread the word about your latest ideas and inventions.

A number of weeks back I followed in the footsteps of countless beauty vloggers by brushing up on my knowledge of contouring and sharing expert tips on how to make the most of your face’s best angles with this clever technique. Such is the nature of this ever-evolving age of technology, just a couple of weeks after getting to grips with contouring my attention was suddenly drawn to the process of ‘tontouring’, after Cocoa Brown entrepreneur Marissa Carter sent beauty buffs into a frenzy by documenting this newfound method on her Snapchat channel. Is it just me or is anyone else struggling to keep up?

Just hours after posting her ‘tontouring’ tutorial, the technique spread like wildfire as Marissa’s legions of followers attempted to create the look themselves. Such was the reaction in fact, the beauty mogul decided to release her very own tontouring kit to appeal to those who helped her tutorial to go viral. In the spirit of embracing summer – not to mention the fact that I currently have about three bottles of fake tan in my cupboard begging to be used – I’ve decided to find out more about this technique and maybe even incorporate it into my summer beauty routine.

First things first; what exactly is ‘tontouring’? According to the experts at Cocoa Brown, tontouring is the method of using fake tan to contour your facial features, by applying a mixture of lighter and darker shades of tan to certain areas on your face. As for the question of why this technique has taken off to such an extent, Marissa believes it is all down to achieving maximum impact with minimal effort, saying: “It really works and saves a lot of time so I guess a lot of women find it useful.” Can’t argue with that!

So how exactly does one achieve a ‘tontoured’ look? Here is a simple, step-by-step guide to creating the look with the help of the new Cocoa Brown by Marissa Carter Tontouring Brush Set:

1. Use the T1 brush to apply either 1 HOUR TAN or Gentle Bronze to your face as a base. This round, flat-head stippling brush ensures application is even and product is perfectly blended.

2. Next, use the T2 brush and apply a second layer of tan across the top of your forehead and under your cheekbones for a contoured effect.

3. T1 can also be used to blend tan perfectly on your hands. Rinse after a couple of hours or leave it on your skin overnight to develop.

The NEW Cocoa Brown by Marissa Carter Tontouring Brush Set is priced at €13 and is available in pharmacies nationwide.
