A NEW drainage scheme and resurfacing works for The Warren car park is being made possible through the allocation of €100,000 under this year’s local property tax allocations.
The local property tax allocations were approved at the May monthly meeting of the West Cork Municipal District, which included the allocation for the popular beach in Rosscarbery.
Cllr Isobel Towse (SD) who had tabled a motion last October asking for the resurfacing works to be included in the 2026 budget, said: ‘Lots of people, from locals to businesses who operate at the Warren to tourists who visit, will be delighted with this news.

The surface was deeply pitted because heavy rain lodging on the car park surface made it almost impossible to maintain.
Cllr Towse said: ‘The rain washed away the gravel, revealing giant craters so severe that parts of it were barely accessible without a four-wheel drive.’
And media coverage at the time dubbed The Warren carpark as ‘the pot-holiest car park of them all.’
Another project that is to be funded in the Skibbereen Electoral Area include the allocation of €150,000 for public lighting upgrades and resurfacing works at Fairfield car park.
Cllr Daniel Sexton (Ind Ire) had previously tabled a motion requesting that this work be carried out because of its high-volume usage, and the need to improve the site for the town’s Saturday morning market.
As previously reported, €100,000 has been allocated under the local property tax spend to develop a car park at the West End site in Dunmanway.
