A MAGICAL year for Kilmacabea GAA/LGFA has hit a new high – it has been crowned the 2025 West Cork Sports Star Club of the Year after a truly outstanding and historic season on and off the field.

The Leap-based club enjoyed a remarkable year that delivered five county titles, highlighted by the crowning achievement – Kilmacabea’s junior A footballers capturing their first-ever county title in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on November 30th, a moment that will live forever in club folklore.

Kilmacabea’s commitment to the One Club ethos has also set it apart, and the introduction of ladies football in recent years has reaped rich rewards. Underage ladies teams won three county titles in 2025, while Nell Kinsella was a key player on the Cork U14 team that won the All-Ireland title.

Also, in the first year of Kilmacabea’s amalgamation with St James at underage level, the minor footballers captured the Rebel Óg Division 2 title.

Off the pitch, Kilmacabea GAA Club opened a new astro-turf pitch that will help safeguard its future. The opening of this state-of-the-art facility, officially opened by LGFA President Trina Murray, underlined the club’s ambition.

This is a club that pulls out all the stops, and is rooted in community, driven by volunteers, and united by pride. Now they have the 2025 West Cork Sports Star Club of the Year award to show for their efforts.
