IF you see a pink Tuk Tuk travelling west it will be Dean Lambert, a man from the UK who will be travelling clockwise around the entire coast of Ireland to raise funds for Boot Out Breast Cancer.

The Long Way Down it is not, but even Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman would acknowledge Dean's commitment to his second annual Seaside Shenanigans Tour.

Last year, in his first year of retirement from his job as a health and safety manager for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Dean travelled 4,197 miles over 27 days on his Honda motorbike around the UK and raised more than €3,000 for the same charity.

Before he even departed from Waterford at 9.30am on Tuesday morning, he explained that there will be a third Shenanigans Tour.

Dean, who is from Leigh near Manchester, and is married to a very understanding woman, Kay, said he had a 25-year plan to retire at 55, and to travel the entire European coastline over about 10 trips.

'I'd been telling my friends that I was going to do that, and now that I am on the second leg they are starting to believe me,' he said.

There are, of course, other aspects to the story like the fact that Kay had a health scare last year, so raising funds for a health care charity is important.

Then there is his friend, Darren Banks, who died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 60, but will be making the journey with Darren in laminated photo form.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can check out the links to his JustGiving page, his Facebook page Tuk Tuk Around Ireland, or 'Dixie's' YouTube channel monkeydixadventures.

Dean said he has his ferry home booked for April 15th, which will give him a day's grace if anything goes wrong. 'I will be trying to do 100 and 150 miles a day, but it is slow going because at max the Tuk Tuk does 40mph,' he said.

The Tuk Tuk will offer some protection from the elements and has afforded Dean enough room to pack his accordion, so anyone who knows of a music session along his route should reach out.

It was at the Dragon Rally in Wales that Dean saw Tuk Tuks and an online search led him to Tuk Tuk UK, which happens to be just eight miles from where he lives.

The owner there, Rob Leggett, offered him the use of the Tuk Tuk for the month but it was only two days before leaving the UK that Dean discovered it was pink. 'It definitely will stand out,' said Dean, who sagely pointed out that it fits with the charity.

As Seaside Shenanigans Tour title suggests, Dean's YouTube channel is a bit of fun, but he doesn't shy away from the fact that the long way around is good for his mental health.

'I had a mental breakdown a few years ago. I never had anxiety before. It hit me like a tonne of bricks. I didn't know what it was. And I found one of the things that helped was riding my bike.'

Dean said: 'It's okay to talk. I joined a group called Andy's Man Club, which has about 200 clubs around the UK. It's where men can go and talk about anxiety, depression and things.

'It's to prevent suicide, not that I would,' said Dean, who has since become a facilitator at one of the clubs in Leeds.

'Every Monday at 7pm, the first three questions that are asked of its members are: How's your week been? Mention something good that's happened? And is there something you want to get off your mind?'

Dean said: 'People open up and you can see the weight being lifted from them. Once, I got past my anxiety I wanted to give something back and help others as well.' He is continuing to do that by talking about it, working on a challenge he set himself, and raising funds for women's health.'
