Sean Murphy magic fires Dohenys hurlers to Carbery U21 glory

SEAN Murphy hit the net twice as Dohenys comfortably beat Randal Óg to claim the Clóna Milk Carbery U21C hurling championship crown.

This result was rarely in doubt as the Dunmanway club used home comforts to their advantage.

Jamie Dullea opened the scoring for the home side after two minutes before a Jimmy O’Sullivan free levelled it for Randals. That was the only time the Ballinacarriga club were level, however, as two Euan Lehane frees put Dohenys in front before a crucial score arrived.

Sean Murphy buried his first goal on 11 minutes to leave the Dunmanway club 1-3 to 0-1 ahead. Lehane was instrumental from frees as his points, plus scores from Dullea and Padraig Hegarty, pushed Dohenys into a strong lead, 1-8 to 0-2 after 28 minutes.

O’Sullivan and Patrick Collins were Randals’ scorers but they were well behind at the break, trailing 1-8 to 0-3.

Lehane picked up where he left off in the second half with two more placed balls before Paudie Crowley made it 1-11 to 0-4 on 51 minutes.

The icing was applied to the Dohenys cake with Murphy in for another goal on 53 minutes while Randals only had O’Sullivan and Collins’ frees in the latter half.

Top scorer Lehane finished off the win with another placed ball on 57 minutes.

It was Dohenys’ first Carbery U21 hurling win since 2008 when they took the B crown, and it was well celebrated.
