Two Mid Cork players, Sean Murphy and Noel O’Donovan, contested a Mid-North-Gaeltacht junior A championship score at Ballinacurra, playing for a total stake of €4,400.
After three each to Brinny cross, Murphy had 15 metres of odds – he got a huge third from the back of the level crossing. O’Donovan was back in front after two more to Foley’s. Murphy threw his sixth shot way out and got a huge bowl back of the nooks that O’Donovan only beat by five metres in two.
O’Donovan kept it under the bowl to the hurling alley. Murphy got a huge tenth past the bridge and Innishannon cross to the silvery gates that O’Donovan missed in two shots to go two bowls of odds down.
Murphy continued to pile on the odds when he went full sight for the straight, O’Donovan well back of the junior C line and Murphy played another big bowl up the straight to progress to the next round. Jim Coffey and Eoin McCarthy had one each – Coffey won the first for €3,000 a-side and Eoin the second for €1,600 a-side.
At Castletown in a Mid Cork junior B championship score, Kilbrittain goalkeeper Ger O’Driscoll was a trap-to-line winner over John A Murphy, playing for a total stake of €4,500. In a return score, Michael Desmond beat Mike Casey by one bowl for €1,400 a-side.
