THE Southern Star’s sports coverage is in a league of its own – and that’s official, after we picked up our third major sports award in 24 months.
The quality, variety and extensiveness of our ladies’ football coverage received widespread praise at the inaugural Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) awards held in Croke Park on Saturday night.
Sports editor Kieran McCarthy received the LGFA Local Journalist of the Year award in recognition of The Southern Star’s top-class coverage of ladies’ football – both locally in West Cork and at county level.
Of the seven awards handed out on the night, The Southern Star received the only media award – further endorsement of our award-winning sports section that delivers all the local sports news from across the region.
This is the third major national sports award in two years for Star Sport, which won the 2016 Camogie Local Newspaper of the Year award and the 2017 Local Ireland Sports Story of the Year.
