Skibbereen brothers discover opponents in heat at Olympics in Rio

SKIBBEREEN Rowing Club’s Gary and Paul O’Donovan have been drawn in Lane 5 in Sunday’s opening heat of the men’s lightweight double sculls at the Olympic Games in Rio.

The Skibbereen brothers will race against Germany, Turkey, Denmark and Italy at 3.20pm Irish time, with the top two crews going into the A/B semi-finals while the next three crews will then battle it out in the repechage on Monday, which starts at 1.40pm Irish time.

The lightweight men’s double sculls semi-finals will take place next Wednesday, at 1.10pm and 1.20pm Irish time, with the Olympic A final on Friday, August 12th, at 2.04pm Irish time.

Gary and Paul, who won gold at the European Rowing Championships last May, are coached by Skibbereen’s Dominic Casey.
