NICOLA Tuthill will spearhead the Athletics Ireland team that will compete at the upcoming European Throwing Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus on March 14th and 15th.

The Kilbrittain hammer thrower (22) has enjoyed plenty of success in this competition in recent years. In both 2023 and ’24, Nicola won silver in the U23 category, and last year she made history when taking gold in the U23 hammer, becoming Ireland’s first-ever European Throwing Cup champion.

This will be Tuthill’s first time competing in the senior women's hammer at this competition.

The UCD AC athlete, crowned West Cork Sports Star of the Year in January, is coming off the back of a very successful 2025 that saw her reach the final of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last September and extend her personal best to 71.75m.

Also on the five-strong Ireland team heading to Cyprus are Eric Favors (senior men’s shot put), Anna Gavigan (U23 women's discus), Niamh Fogarty (senior women’s discus) and Conor Cusack (senior men’s javelin).
