County board confirms that Newcestown have withdrawn from relegation play-off
NEWCESTOWN have been relegated from Division 1 of the county football league after they withdrew from the relegation play-off.
Three West Cork clubs – Newcestown, Ilen Rovers and Clonalkilty – were all tied on the same number of points (8) at the foot of the table, and a three-way play-off was to decide which two clubs were relegated from Division 1.
Newcestown and Ilen Rovers were scheduled to play this Saturday in a relegation play-off in Kilmacabea, but Newcestown have pulled out of the game, as the county board confirmed tonight: ‘This game (Newcestown v Ilen Rovers) is cancelled and will not go ahead tomorrow afternoon. Please note that Newcestown has confirmed they have withdrawn from the relegation play-off. Consequently their game v Clonakilty next week is also forfeited.’
It means that the game between Ilen Rovers and Clonakilty on November 1st will decide the second relegation spot. The winners of this relegation play-off game will retain Division 1 status for 2016.
