MAEVE O’Neill has booked her ticket to the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The Ballinacarriga woman (21) is in the form of her life after her best season yet, and continued that form by securing her place in the women’s 800m at the prestigious NCAA Championships.

O’Neill’s reward for her latest impressive performance is an 800m semi-final in Eugene on Thursday, June 11th.

Needing to finish inside the top 12 at the NCAA Division I Track and Field East Preliminary competition at the University of Kentucky, the Providence College star delivered.

The Doheny AC trailblazer finished third in her preliminary race in 2:02.66 before returning to clock 2:00.72 in the quarter-final – just outside her personal best of 2:00.33 set in February – to comfortably take one of the 12 semi-final qualification spots on offer.

The Providence junior has already won the Big East 800m indoor and outdoor titles this season, set a new Irish indoor 800m record, as well as raced in this distance at the World Indoor Championships in Poland in March.
