Bandon AC athletes have proved, once again, that they are in a league of their own.

BANDON AC athletes have proved, once again, that they are in a league of their own.

Last weekend in Glasgow, Vienna and Athlone, Bandon AC athletes excelled with a number of gold medals, personal bests and club records.

At the Scottish National Senior Championships held in the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, Shane Howard smashed his club record with 7.53 metres in the long jump.

Meanwhile in Vienna, Irish sprinter Phil Healy ran 7.42 in an indoor 60 metres before racing to a 53.78 in the indoor 400m, a personal best and only three hundredths of a second off the qualifying time for the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Serbia next month.

Elsewhere, at the U20/23 Indoor Nationals in Athlone last weekend there was further success for Bandon AC athletes, as Laura McSweeney finished first in the U23 shot putt to win gold.

Joe Gibson won gold in the U20 60m in an impressive time of 6.97, which is a new senior record for the club.

Gavin Hicks finished second in the U23 Weight For Distance and he also placed fifth in the U23 shot putt. Thomas McCarthy came in fourth in the U23 800m, while Aoibhinn O’Connor, in her triple jump, achieved 9.27m, which is also a new senior club record.

Laura Nicholson ran the 1500m in excellent time of 4.49.37 seconds, another new senior club record.
