KILBRITTAIN hurlers hope to get their hands on an All-Ireland trophy this Saturday, but they have already secured one of the top prizes in West Cork sport – they have been named the 2025 West Cork Sports Star Team of the Year!

Following a fairytale campaign that saw the Black and Amber army march to glory in the Cork Premier Junior Hurling Championship, conquer Munster, and now qualify for an All-Ireland final, Kilbrittain have ventured further than any West Cork hurling team in history.

This is an historic run – Joe Ryan’s men have won all eight championship games in this campaign, stretching back to their opening Cork PJHC group win against Barryroe on August 1st. They now stand on the cusp of All-Ireland glory ahead of Saturday’s battle with Sligo club Easkey in Croke Park.

Regardless of the result – and the shared hope in West Cork is that the Carbery club will triumph at GAA HQ – Kilbrittain will be presented with the coveted Team of the Year award at the gala West Cork Sports Star Awards in the Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery, on Saturday night, January 17th.

Recent winners of the West Cork Sports Star Team of the Year award include Clonakilty Soccer Club (2024), O’Donovan Rossa ladies footballers (2023), and Skibbereen Rugby Club’s women’s team (2022).

Already, Kilbrittain captain Philip Wall picked up a 2025 monthly award after leading his club to the county title, but since then they have risen to bigger and better things – and they aren’t finished yet.
