DOHENYS’ star Melissa Duggan and Kinsale ace Orla Finn are among the 45 nominees for the 2019 TG4 All Star team.
In total, seven Cork footballers have made the shortlist of 45 after a season that saw the Rebels win the Lidl National League Division 1 title and the Munster championship before losing to eventual All-Ireland winners Dublin in an All-Ireland semi-final.
Duggan, who was named in the Division 1 Team of the League after her starring role in that competition for the Rebels, is regarded as one of the best defenders in the country. She is nominated for the left corner back position on the All Star team and is up against Martha Byrne (Dublin) and Éilis Ronayne (Mayo).
Orla Finn previously won an All Star award in 2016 and the Cork star forward, again, led the county’s attack this year. She is in the running for the left corner forward position on the 2019 All-Star team, along with Grace Kelly (Mayo) and Róisín Leonard (Galway).
Five other Cork players have also been nominated including Éire Óg forward Eimear Scally, as well as Eimear Meaney, Hannah Looney, Shauna Kelly and Ashling Hutchings.
Three-in-a-row champions Dublin lead the way with 13 nominations while beaten finalists Galway received nine.
The 2019 TG4 All Star team will be announced at a gala banquet at the Citywest Hotel on Saturday, November 16th, along with the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Players’ Player of the Year award winners, the Provincial Young Players of the Year and the 2019 inductee into the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) Hall of Fame.
