DOHENYS have opted for a four-man senior football management team for the 2015 season.

The Dunmanway club, which just avoided relegation from the county senior football championship last year, has named Cathal Crowley, Steven Mohan, Brian Herlihy and Michael O’Donovan as its senior selectors for the season ahead.

This management team takes over from the long-serving Jerry O’Mahony.

All four selectors were prominent players for the Dohenys during the 1980s and ’90s.

Steven Mohan, who was involved with the Dohenys senior footballers last season, is the strength and conditioning coach. As well as known for his football prowess he was also a talented athlete.

Both Brian Herlihy and Cathal Crowley have been Dohenys senior selectors in the past. The experienced Herlihy is currently involved with Cork IT’s Sigerson Cup team and is also a former Cork U21 football selector.

Cathal Crowley made his name as a Dohenys forward while Michael O’Donovan was a full back of note.

Herlihy, Mohan and Crowley played leading roles for the Dohenys when they won the junior county in 1993 and the intermediate title two years later, which took the club into the senior ranks.

It is hoped that this change will help guide the club to better days in senior as they needed a relegation final play-off win against St Nick’s last year to hold onto their senior status.

Clonakilty is another West Cork club to adopt the team management approach and they will start out the season with Michael ‘Casey’ O’Donovan, Eoin Ryan, Padraig White, Billy O’Connor and Eddie Kirwan.
