BANTRY AC’s Darragh McElhinney smashed the Irish junior 5000m indoor record at the Connacht Indoor Championships in Athlone.
The 18-year-old Glengarriff runner took almost 24 seconds off the old record as he won in 14:13.68, well ahead of the old record that was set by Aaron Hanlon of Clonliffe Harriers in Boston in December 2014.
